Many K-12 schools in the United States are adding computer science courses and pathways, yet most teachers have little experience in computer science education. This certificate program fills that gap by providing teachers with the content and pedagogy to teach computer science.

Following a part-time schedule of one class per term, you can complete this program in four terms or just under a year and a half. This certificate will prepare you to teach computer science to all K-12 students.

All the courses, except for the Methods and Capstone course, align with the CSTA Level 3 standards for high school students. Each course will have a diversity strand that will help teachers address the needs of all learners and include pedagogical content knowledge. Courses in the certificate are aligned with CSTA’s Standards for CS Teachers which outlines what effective CS teachers should know and be able to do.

Who is this program designed for?

  • Current teachers at the secondary level, in any field/specialization
  • District curriculum specialists supporting computer science teachers and courses
  • Educators who provide computer science education in out-of-school programs
